Mercedes-Benz Quits Formula E to Focus on Development of Electric Vehicle Road Car

The automobile giant Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that, it is going to be quitting the ABB Formula E World Championship at the end of the up-coming season, as the company now wants to completely focus on the resources for the ramp-up of the development of the electric road cars.

The announcement comes just days after the Mercedes-EQ team has successfully claimed both the championships in the season finale of 2020/2021 held in Berlin, and the company Mercedes Benz is now going to be committed to racing in the up-coming 2021/2022 season but will the leave as manufacturer and team entrant for the championship before the new package of the Gen3 rules is going to be introduced for the forth coming season.

The company said that, the decision for leaving the Formula E had been made followed by the announcement made in July 2021, that Mercedes-Benz is going to switch to a fully-electric vehicles line-up in several markets by 2030.

Mercedes-Benz also said, it has deliberately selected to shift the resources for the newly accelerated ramp-up of the electrification, that is going to be including the development of the three electric vehicle platforms, and the company also added that, it is going to be applying the lessons, which the company has learned in the Formula E championship competition to the cars of the production series.

Markus Schafer, Mercedes-Benz boss said, they have now committed to fight against the climate change at full force in the decade, and for this, they will need to accelerate the company’s products and services towards an software-driven and emission-free future.
