On Thursday, 1st July 2021, Nissan, Japanese automobile company announced plans for the purpose of building the first car battery factory of United Kingdom, where the company will be manufacturing a new fully electric vehicle.
Boris Johnson, prime minister of United Kingdom has hailed the post-Brexit investment, which is totaling 1 billion pounds, that is all set for creating 6,200 jobs as a part of a major vote of confidence in the United Kingdom. Envision AESC, Chinese battery supplier for Nissan is also going to invest 450 million pounds for constructing the car battery Gigafactory in United Kingdom, which is going to run on renewable energy and will also be powering around 100,000 electric vehicles of Nissan per year.
The battery factory, that us going to be built next to the largest European factory of Nissan in Sunderland, had also been hailed as a key to the transition of United Kingdom from the fossil fuels vehicles. The news for the battery factory comes after Renault revealed its plans to build a Chinese-owned battery factory in France on 30th June 2021.
Ashwani Gupta, chief operating officer of Nissan said, this is a landmark day for the company, their partners, the automobile industry, and United Kingdom as a whole, while revealing the EV36Zero project in the region of Sunderland. Nissan is going to spend around 423 million pounds on an all-electric vehicle, and the City Council of Sunderland is going to help in bringing the total amount of the investment to around 1 billion pounds.
