Premier League Clubs Agree to Remove Gambling Sponsorships from Team Shirts

Sports

After discussions with the government, Premier League clubs have agreed to stop sponsoring their front shirts with gambling companies.

The news was declared in a proclamation from the association, with clubs having for the rest of the 2025/2026 season to come into line with the new guidelines. The time has come for a number of teams, including West Ham, to find new sponsors. This makes the Premier League the first sports league in the UK to do so voluntarily in order to cut down on gambling advertising.

As part of the government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation, extensive consultations with the League, its clubs, and the Department for Sport, Culture, and Media preceded the announcement.

A new code for responsible gambling sponsorship is also being developed by the Premier League and other sports. To help clubs with their progress away from shirt-front betting sponsorship, the aggregate arrangement will start toward the finish of the 2025/26 season.

The change will have an impact on West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, Fulham, Leeds United, Newcastle, Southampton, and West Ham. The reports claim that the move was approved by 18 of the 20 current Premier League clubs, with the remaining clubs voting against it.
