US CDC Removed Mask Recommendation From Its Monkeypox Travel Notice

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States said, it has removed a mask recommendation from the agency’s monkeypox travel notice for the purpose of avoiding the confusion over the disease, which is primarily spreading through direct contact.

On Tuesday, 7th June 2022, the US CDC has now removed the mask recommendation from the monkeypox Travel Health Notice because it has now caused a confusion. Previously, the agency had suggested that, the travellers have been wearing the masks as it can possibly help in protecting against many diseases including monkeypox.

According to the website of the US CDC, during the disease spreads primarily through the direct contact with the infectious sores, body fluids and scabs and it can also spread by the respiratory secretions during the prolonged and face-to-face contact.

According to the reports, around 30 countries where the monkeypox disease is not endemic and have also reported the outbreaks of the viral disease along with over 911 confirmed cases mostly in the continent of Europe.

On the infection control guidance page for monkeypox, the agency has advised the infected patients for wearing a surgical mask and several other household members should also consider wearing a surgical face mask when they are in the presence of the person infected with monkeypox disease.
