DFI Retail Group Launches Initiative to Boost Food Security, Reduce Hunger

World

DFI Retail Group, a food retail operator, is launching a news community initiative to kick off its commitment to provide a million meals to the less fortunate people in Singapore over two years.

The project, known as ‘Have You Eaten?’ is a part of the corporate social responsibility efforts of the company to reduce hunger and increase food security in the regions where it operates. DFI Retail Group runs over 10,200 outlets in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. These also include Cold Storage, Giant, CS Fresh, 7-Eleven, and Guardian.

The group will also contribute a percentage of its revenue from the sale of exclusive brand rice from any Cold Storage or CS Fresh stores towards the programme. DFI said the project will spearhead the efforts of the company in reaching its goal of providing the equivalent of one million meals of food donated, and is supported by its ongoing successful food donation drive, which is in partnership with The Food Bank Singapore.

The project will also see DFI focusing its efforts on food donation on providing significantly more rice. Rice is an essential food staple and one of the top items that are requested for donation.

Chris Bush, CEO of DFI Retail Group Southeast Asia, said the company is aware that there are people in their community who are not able to afford to have a proper meal a day.
