Samsung and Stellantis Planning New Electric Vehicle Battery Plant In Indiana

A joint venture between Samsung and Stellantis is planning to build an electric vehicle battery factory in the region of Indiana that is going to employ around 1,400 workers and also becoming the second such factory of the company in the region of North America.

The joint venture is also planning to spend over 2.5 billion dollars on the plant in the region of Kokomo that is going to supply the electric battery modules for a range of the vehicles produced at the assembly plants of Stellantis in the region of North America.

The construction of the plant is also expected to start later in 2022 along with the facility expected to open in early period months of 2025 in the city regarding 60 miles north of the Indianapolis. The investment of the joint venture in the plant could gradually increase up to 3.1 billion dollars as said by Mark Stewart, chief operating officer of Stellantis North America.

The Samsung SDI is going to be using the company’s PRiMX technology for producing the electric vehicle battery cells and the modules for the market of North America at the plant of Kokomo.

In March 2022, the company has announced the plans for spending 4.1 billion dollars in a joint venture with the LG Energy Solution of Korea for the purpose of building one of the plants in the region of Windsor, Ontario Canada and that plant is going to employ around 2,500 people.
