European Electric Van Plant with Mercedes-Benz Halted by Rivian

Rivian, a manufacturer of electric vehicles, has announced that it will no longer pursue the Memorandum of Understanding with Mercedes-Benz and has halted plans to produce its electric commercial vans in Europe. In September 2022, this Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

Rivian’s Chief Executive Officer, RJ Scaringe, stated that they have decided to put off discussing their agreement with Mercedes-Benz Vans to jointly produce electric vans in Europe. As they assess amazing learning experiences, they seek after the best gamble changed profits from our capital ventures. As of now, they think zeroing in on their customer business, as well as their current business, address the most alluring close term chances to expand an incentive for Rivian.

According to Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Mathias Geisen, their agreement with the Rivian team was founded on a strong partnership spirit and a shared interest in engineering. He respects and comprehends Rivian’s decision to prioritize the delivery of their consumer business and existing commercial business in the near future for this reason. The pace of our own electrification strategy at Mercedes-Benz Vans has not changed, but the timeline for their common European production joint venture is now on hold.

Mathias Geisen added, the increase plan for their new EV fabricating site in Jawor, Poland isn’t impacted. In their first dedicated electric van plant, which is designed for maximum flexibility and productivity, they will proceed with full speed and determination to scale up the production of electric vehicles.

With the intention of having a greater impact on the transition to carbon-neutral transportation, Rivian is developing a brand and product portfolio. Rivian’s first consumer and commercial vehicles are the R1T, R1S, and Electric Delivery Van (EDV) last-mile delivery vans.

Rivian’s flagship products, the R1T and R1S, offer a one-of-a-kind combination of utility, efficiency, and performance. On the commercial side, Rivian introduced the EDV, which was designed and engineered by Rivian and Amazon as an anchor product for the fleet market to combat climate change on a large scale.
