USA’s Chemours Committed to Protect Okefenokee From Mining

The competitors of a controversial plans for the purpose of mining the titanium near the Okefenokee Swamp has got a big win when the company ‘The Chemours’ has announced that, it is not going to be purchasing the mine and also the company behind the project.

The announcement of the company has come in the response to a proposal of a shareholder that has been filed in the month of November 2021 by the Green Century, which has been a non-profit funding that has been investing in the clean energy and green energy.

Chemours, which has been a chemical company has spun off of the DuPont, which had also been looking into the acquisition of the Twin Pines Minerals based in Alabama that has been seeking the permits for the mining of the titanium dioxide at a site, which has been three miles away from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, which has been the biggest black water swamp in the region of North America.

The competition companies have also given the warning that, the mining of the chemical can possibly damage the neighbouring wetlands along with permanently affecting the hydrology of the whole swamp of around 438,000 acres.

The company has also committed for not doing business with the Twin Pines along with purchasing the titanium from the Okefenokee-neighbouring project at any time in the upcoming future.
