Samsung Launches Next-Gen RAM Technology for Metaverse and Phones

Technology

Samsung, technology company based in South Korea has announced that, a new memory technology has been designed in the form of Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM for the purpose of driving further the growth throughout the high-speed applications of data service including 5G, the metaverse and artificial intelligence.

The LPDDR5X has been a next-generation mobile DRAM that has been designed for the purpose of boosting the speed, power savings and capacity for the 5G applications in the future, and in 2018, the company had successfully delivered the first 8Gb LPDDR5 DRAM and it is now moving beyond the mobile markets along with the first 16Gb LPDDR5X DRAM.

SangJoon Hwang, head of the DRAM design team and senior vice president at Samsung Electronics said, their LPDDR%X is going to be broadening the use of the high-performance, along with the low memory power beyond the smartphones and it is also going to bring the new capabilities for the edge applications based on artificial intelligence like the servers and automobiles.

The company is also going to be offering the data processing speeds of around 8.5 Gbps, which has been more than 1.3 times faster than the 6.4 Gbps of LPDDR5, and leveraging the most advanced 14nm DRAM process of the industry, it is also going to be using around 20 percent less power than the memory of LPDDR5.

Additionally, the 16Gb LPDDR5X chip is also going to enable around 64 gigabytes (GB) per package of memory, along with accommodating the increasing demand for the mobile DRAM of high capacity across the world.
