Activists Calls for Ban on Advertisements of Fossil Fuels in European Union

On Monday, 4^th October 2021, a coalition of around 20 climate and environmental groups has launched a company for the purpose of calling for a ban on the advertising of the fossil fuels along with the sponsorship across the region of European Union, and also similar bans on the advertising of tobacco.

Over 80 Greenpeace activists have banned the entry of oil refinery company ‘Shell’ in the port of Rotterdam for the purpose of drawing the attention to the launch of the initiative of the citizens of Europe that have been calling for the ban on advertising.

This announcement comes less than a month before the beginning of the climate summit of the United Nations, known as COP26 in the region of Glasgow, and this summit of 12 days has been aiming to secure more ambitious commitments for the purpose of limiting the global warming for bringing it below 2 degrees Celsius, along with a goal of keeping it to the 1.5 degrees Celsius as compared to the pre-industrial levels.

Chaja Merk, an environmental activist at the Greenpeace ship said, he has grown up by reading the signs about how the cigarettes have been killing the people, but he had never seen similar warnings in the petrol station of the fuel tanks, and it has also been frightening that, his favorite museums and sports have also been sponsored by the car companies and also the airlines. He also said, the advertisements of fossil fuels mainly belong in a museum and not sponsoring them.
