The renewable energy giant ‘Shell’ has given the commitment for investing 565 million dollars in the renewable energy in the country of Brazil, for which, the company has launched a new division known as the Shell Energy Brazil in the country.
Most of the capex has been related to the solar energy projects, and Gabriela Oliveira, head of the renewable development for the region of Latin America, said, the company ‘Shell’ is having 2 gigawatt of the solar energy projects under development and the company is also expecting to reach the target of 5 gigawatt by the end of the year, and according to Gabriela Oliveira, the company has also been intending to launch an offshore campaign for the development of wind energy in the year 2021.
Guilherme Perdigao, director of renewables and energy solution at Shell Energy said, the launch of the brand in the country of Brazil has been reflecting the efforts of the company towards the decarbonization and also the opportunities that have been opened up by the New Gas Law and by the entry of the consumers into the free electricity market.
The company has not dismissed the possibility of making the new investments in the generation of renewable energy joint ventures, and the company has also been planning to develop the thermal plant, that will be fired by natural gas in the region of Marlim Azul and it has been expected to start its operation by the year 2022.
