Siemens Smart Infrastructure, a business unit of the Siemens, that mainly focuses on the smart and digital energy has signed the letter of intent with Germany’s Zukunftsenergie Nordostbayern, a consortium of the regional stakeholders that includes the utility suppliers for the purpose of building a 200 MWh large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Wunsiedel, Northern Bavaria, Germany.
The partners are now going to look into the development of a suitable concept of financing and will also be looking at how the project is going to be implemented, and the company Siemens said, services provider ‘Fluence’ and energy storage technology, that was established in 2017 as Siemens-AES Corporation joint venture, is going to be responsible in providing the lithium-ion battery system.
Siemens is also going to take care of the management duties of the project, that includes the construction of the medium-volt switchgear equipment, and it is also going to be facilitating the connection to the local high-volt grid, and the company said, Zukunftsenergie Nordostbayern is going to be using the battery system for the purpose of managing the integration of the resources of renewable energy and also decreasing the peak load constraints in the network.
Macro Krasser, managing director of SWW Wunsidel said, has described the energy storage systems as an important building block for the purpose of shaping the future of the renewable energy, and his company is also intending to expand the company’s capacity of energy storage for the ability for making better use of the renewable energy generated from the different renewable sources.
