BMW, GM, and Ford Partner with SMUD on Managed EV Charging Pilot

Automobile Business

Automobile companies GM, Ford, and BMW are announcing a new managed electric vehicle (EV) charging pilot program with SMUD, which is the sixth-largest non-profit electric service provider.

All three companies are partnering with SMUD on a managed electric vehicle (EV) charging pilot, and this new charging pilot will help electric vehicle customers save money on utility costs while promoting the energy grid.

SMUD is currently working with the three automobile companies to see if the new pilot program can help electric vehicle users find the best time to charge the vehicles during the day. As a leader in clean energy and decreasing carbon dioxide, the goal of SMUD is to reach zero carbon emissions for its power supply by 2030, which is also called its Zero Carbon Plan.

Current power supply of SMUD is around 50 percent carbon free, and yet the company is planning to add 3,000 megawatts of renewable energy and storage. If SMUD can accomplish this, it will be enough to power 600,000 homes per year.
