UK Car Production Increased by 13.1 Percent

UK car production increased 13.1% year-over-year due to an increase in exports. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 69,707 automobiles were produced in the previous month, with 81.2% of those automobiles going to foreign markets.

The European Union, which is by far the largest market for vehicles made in the UK, received nearly 60% of the exports. A decrease in the number of people going to China and the United States was offset by smaller numbers going to Turkey, Japan, and Australia. Exports increased 11.5 percent, while domestic production increased 20.3%.

The supply chain shortages, particularly of semi-conductors, that have harmed the global auto manufacturing industry since the early months of 2021, have eased, according to the SMMT.

Mike Hawes, CEO of SMMT, said that the expansion of UK car production in February indicates a recovering industry. The sector has strong fundamentals, a workforce with a high level of skill, engineering excellence, a sector that is embracing new manufacturing of electrified vehicles, and extensive capabilities in the EV supply chain.

However, in order to take advantage of global opportunities, we must rapidly expand and make the UK the most appealing location for automotive investment by reducing energy costs and trading costs and providing low-carbon energy.
