US House of Representatives Clears Bill for Forever Chemicals

On Wednesday, 21st July 2021, the US House of Representatives have voted for passing the legislation, that has been backed by the representatives of western Massachusetts, which are targeting the use of the PFAS, which is also as the forever chemicals. Jim McGovern, a D-Worcester, who has been responsible for voting in the favour of the bill said, this bill has been a major first step in the right direction for the purpose of protection of the people of US from the forever chemicals.

The PFAS or polyfluoroalkyl substances, that are mainly found in different everyday items, that mainly includes the cookware, food containers, firefighter gear, upholstered furniture and cosmetics, and also in the high concentrations present in the industrial substances, which are used at the sites like airports.

More than 98 percent of the people of the United States, are having a accountable level of the forever chemicals or PFAS in their blood, and once entered in the human bloodstream, the PFAS can be responsible in causing the health issues like liver disease, immunosuppression, certain types of cancer, and also developmental issues in the infants and children.

More than 9,000 PFAS chemicals exist in the world, and six of those chemicals are found in the region of Massachusetts, and the PFAS Action Act legislation is going to be designating two PFAS chemicals as the most hazardous substances, along with setting a deadline for the Environmental Protection Agency of US for the purpose of making some decision about the other PFAS chemicals for creating the grants to provide aid in the efforts of cleaning and establishing strict limitations on the usage, reporting and testing of PFAS.
