Japan Reached Knockout Stage Over 2-1 Win Against Spain

Japan defeats Spain 2-1 to qualify for the World Cup round of 16 along with Spain at the Khalifa International Stadium. In one of the most dramatic games in World Cup history, Japan staged an amazing second-half comeback, beating the 2010 World Cup winners Spain 21, and in the process, Japan has knocked out the 2014 World Cup winners Germany, who left the World Cup in the group stage for the second time in a row.

With this win, Japan has topped the pool with six points ahead of Spain, who were equal on points with Germany but have been able to sneak into the last 16 ahead of Germany to a superior goal difference.

The team selection of Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu have come under scrutiny in the last two games, and after his successful substitutions in the second half against Germany, the players who turned the game were left on bench against Costa Rica that resulted in a loss.

Japan came out all blazing and after the equaliser from Doan in the 48th minute, and Tanaka has knocked the ball past Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simon under the controversial circumstances. Spain has pressed hard for the equaliser but despite keeping the possession, Spain was unable to break the Japanese defense. Japan struggled a bit, but has managed to pull the game and qualify for round of 16 in the World Cup.
