Oregon Becomes 8th US State to Use 100% Renewable Energy

Power & Energy

A bill that is committing to the providers of the electricity for the purpose of delivering 100 percent clean power to the customers of the Oregon stats of US by 2040, has been passed by both the House and Senate of the Oregon State Legislative Assembly.

If the policy is signed by Kate Brown, governor of the Oregon state, the state of Oregon will be becoming the eighth state in the United States of America, which is having a legislative commitment to be using 100 percent of the electricity produced by the clean or renewable energy. If the bill is passed, Oregon state is going to join Washington, Hawaii, California, New York, New Mexico, Virginia and Maine.

The passage of the bill has been following years of advocacy from a variety of coalition of the organizations and stakeholders, that is also including the Environment Oregon for a renewable and clean future for the state. The policy has been focusing on the targets for the purpose of decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions, that are associated with the electricity sold in the state as compared with a base line of 2010.

The legislation has also been including the requirements for 80 percent decrease in the emissions in the sector by 2030 and 90 percent decrease by 2035 and full 100 percent decrease by 2040. Since the emissions from the electricity of the Oregon state have not been increased since 2010, the bill is going to require the emission-free electricity in the state by the end of the year 2040.
