Pivot Power, subsidiary of the company ‘EDF Renewables’, has signed an agreement of partnership with Wartsila, a technology company for the purpose of expanding the company’s Energy Superhubs energy storage initiative across the United Kingdom.
The Energy Superhubs has been an initiative in which, the company Pivot Power has been developing a 2 gigawatt distribute energy storage battery system, which has been integrated with the energy transmission network, which is mainly operated by the National Grid. The main aim of the initiative is to ensure more capacity of the renewable energy has now been integrated into the main grid, along with powering the electric vehicle in United Kingdom.
Under the agreement, both the companies are going to be developing two new battery storage systems based on the grid-scale along with a total capacity of 100 megawatt or 200 megawatts in the regions of Coventry and Sandwell in the western midlands of the United Kingdom, and these two projects are also going to provide electricity for the purpose of powering around 200,000 households for around two hours in the country.
The company ‘Wartsila’ is going to provide the company’s battery technology known as GEMS Digital Energy Platform for the purpose of real time operation of the battery storage facilities in the response to the demand and production of the energy on the main grid.
The model of the Energy Superhubs has been in the line with the ambition of the EDF Renewables company for becoming a key competitor in the e-mobility segment of the continent of Europe by 2023 and also for developing an additional 10 gigawatts of the battery storage by 2035 across the globe.
