Naatu Naatu Song Wins Oscar for Best Original Song

The Oscar-winning Telugu-language film RRR’s Naatu Naatu made history by awarding the first Indian song with an Oscar. The Naatu Naatu song also won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, beating singers such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

Its catchy choreography and fast pace have captivated audiences worldwide. India won a second Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film with The Elephant Whisperers. A documentary about a couple who care for an injured baby elephant after it is separated from its herd is the first Indian production to win in this category.

The Elephant Whisperers, which was shot in the beautiful Nilgiri mountains in southern India, analyzes the warm bond that structures among people and creatures as they coincide.

India’s biggest victory remained Naatu Naatu, a thumping song with beats that have people all over the world grooving to. The Telugu word for “raw” or “rustic” is Naatu Naatu. The song became the first Indian song to win a Golden Globe in January 2023 for best original song.

When MM Keeravani accepted the Oscar, he stated that the song was “the pride of every Indian.” He sang the rest of his speech to the beat of their hit song “Top of the World,” claiming that the American band The Carpenters were his favorite growing up.

The audience roared with laughter and applause when he said that RRR had “put me on the top of the world.”
