In a major setback for the club and minority shareholder Jamie Vardy, his Rochester New York FC has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season.
The Daily Mail says that RNYFC were going to get new money before the new season started, but the deal fell through while it was in its final stages. RNYFC was forced to withdraw from the competition because they were relying on the investment to compete.
The club announced in a lengthy statement that was published on the MLS NEXT Pro website that Rochester NY Football Club will not participate in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. The statement was written with a heavy heart and a great sense of disappointment. We did not make this choice lightly; it required a lot of input from numerous stakeholders, including MLS NEXT Pro.
The club stated that their entire objective for 2023 was to gratify RNYFC supporters by hosting yet another exciting professional soccer season in Rochester. Their fans turned out in extraordinary numbers in 2022, cheered noisily, and were pretty much as energetic as the actual players.
The club added that they were most recently in advanced talks with a group of owners about acquiring a majority stake in RNYFC. In any case, the buying bunch chose not to continue recently as they were moving to close. As a result, they had no choice but to decline the opportunity to field a team in 2023.
