General Motors to Provide up to 175,000 EVs to Hertz

Hertz Global Holdings, a car rental company, plans to order up to 175,000 General Motors (GM) Co. electric vehicles over the next five years, in its latest move toward zero-emission models. Steve Carlisle, North American operations chief of General Motors, said this deal could be the first of many agreements with General Motors to supply electric vehicles to rental companies.

According to Steve Carlisle, automobile companies have cut their reliance on low-profit, and bulk sales to rental car agencies as problems in supply chains have curtailed production. General Motors is expected to deliver electric vehicles to Hertz near retail profit margins.

Mary Barra, chief executive officer of General Motors, said that each rental experience will further increase buying consideration for their products and will drive growth for their company. General Motors also aims to have production capacity to build 1 million electric vehicles annually in North America by 2025. The sale of electric vehicles to Hertz fits within the company’s previously announced goals.

The first GM electric vehicles to ship to Hertz will be Chevrolet Bolt models starting in early 2023. General Motors expects Hertz to deploy most of its electric vehicles in San Francisco and Los Angeles, which helps meet California EV quotas.

Jeff Nieman, senior VP of Hertz, said that the company plans to offer electric vehicles across all its networks prioritising Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
