The EDF Renewables North America has secured a contract of 1GW solar and battery storage from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as a part of the company’s 2021 solicitation for the large-scale renewable energy certificates.
The solar energy projects in the contract include the Columbia Solar Energy Centre and Ridge View Solar Energy Centre and each with 350 megawatt of the capacity and 20 megawatt of the co-located battery storage. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre has been located in the towns of Columbia and Litchfield in Herkimer County while the Ridge View Solar Energy is in the region of Hartland, in the Niagara County.
The Rich Road Solar Energy Centre has been the third solar facility and it comes with a 20 megawatt co-located storage facility in the region of Canton and the EDF Renewables North America has noted that, the projects represents around 40 percent of the total 2,408 megawatt has been awarded in the solicitation.
The company said that, the three solar energy facilities are also expected for delivering the clean electricity by the end of 2025 and they are going to be generating enough clean energy for powering more than 243,000 average New York homes along with displacing over 880,000 million tonnes of the emissions of carbon a year.
Stephane Desdunes, senior development director of EDF Renewables said, the team has been working diligently for progressing the development of their solar energy portfolio in New York since 2017.
