Study: Efficacy of Pfizer, Moderna Vaccine Booster Wanes Significantly by Fourth Month

According to new study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States said that, the efficacy of the third doses or booster doses of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA covid-19 vaccines wanes by the fourth month after the vaccination substantially.

Although it has now been well documented that, the efficacy of the corona virus vaccines goes down after the two doses, and the new study had also been based on over 241,204 visits to the emergency department and 93,408 hospitalizations that had been more serious among the adults with the diseases like novel corona virus during 26th August 2021 to 22nd January 2022.

The efficacy of the novel corona virus vaccine had been estimated by comparing the odds of a positive corona virus test between the vaccinated and unvaccinated patients along with using the statistical methods to control along with adjusting the vaccines for the age along with the level of the local transmission and the characteristics like the comorbidities.

During the dominant period of the Omicron covid-19 variant, the efficacy of the vaccine against the corona virus associated with the emergency department had been 87 percent during the first two months of a third dose but has been decreased to 66 percent by the fourth month after receiving the third dose of the covid-19 vaccine.
