Vodafone to Launch Mobile Phone Masts Entirely Powered by Renewable Energy

The company ‘Vodafone’ is now set to install the mobile phone masts that are going to be fully powered by the renewable energy only once the trials of the technology will be concluded later 2021, and they are called as Eco-masts and will be deployed in the remote locations in the United Kingdom away from any kind of the connection to the electricity grid.

These masts are also expected to improve the rural connectivity by allowing the new sites for being built in some more remote areas along with supporting the commitments of the industry for covering around 95 percent of the landmass of the United Kingdom by the year 2025.

The company ‘Vodafone UK’ has also been working along with the Crossflow Energy on the development of the latter wind turbine technology of the company, which is then going to be combine with the battery and solar technologies for the purpose of creating the self-powered towers for mobile network.

Cornerstone, network partner of Vodafone is going to be running a proof of the concept mast along with the turbine technology of Crossflow on the rural mobile sites, and also decreasing the energy consumption of Vodafone, along with the self-powered sites removing the need for connecting to the electricity grid.

Andrea Dona, Vodafone UK’s chief network officer said, connecting the masts to the energy grid can possibly be a major barrier for delivering this objective, and hence making these sites self-powered has been a big step forward for them and also for the mobile sector.
