US: FDA Raised Concerns About PFAS Present in Foods

The Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America has now been reminding the producers that, only certain chemical processes are going to be allowed for the fluorinating polyethylene containers, which are mainly being used for storing the food.

This warning from the FDA comes after the reports of the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that had been migrating into the pesticides stored in the fluorinated high-density polyethylene containers have been released in earlier 2021.

Susan Mayne, director of Centre for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition of FDA said, it has been very important for noting that, there has been no evidence of the unlawful manufacturing or production processes that are being used for the food containers, and they have been continuously encouraging the distributors and manufacturers for consulting with them regarding the regulatory status of ant of the production processes that is being used for producing the fluorinated polyethylene containers for using them in the contact with the food.

In a letter written to the industry, the FDA of the United States have clarified that, the fluorinated polyethylene containers that have been used for the food, which had only been made by using the fluorine gas in the presence of the nitrogen for the purpose of modification of the surface of molded container.

The FDA has also been claiming that, it has also sent the letter out of an abundance of very serious caution, and not just because the FDA has been aware of any of the unauthorized fluorinated polyethylene containers, which are being used for storing the food.
