Bayer to Remove Harmful Chemicals for its Products in US

As the company ‘Bayer’ has now been facing the litigation costs of 4.5 billion dollars, and on Thursday, 29th July 2021, the company has announced that, it is going to remove the weed-killing compound known as glyphosate from the company’s lawn and garden products in the United States as soon as 2023.

This move from the company has come 13 months after the company has settled for around 10 million dollars with the 95,000 plaintiffs, who have been alleging that, the chemical glyphosate in the roundup of Bayer, which is the most widely used weedkiller in the United States, that causes cancer.

The studies have also linked the herbicides based on the glyphosate that is responsible in causing the problems related to cancer and reproduction along with several health issues, and until now, around two courts in the United States, which is including a federal appeals court in the month of May 2021, and the courts have also ruled in the favours of the plaintiffs who were blaming their non-Hodgkins lymphoma on the glyphosate.

Matt Casale, director of PIRG environment campaigns said, it has been absurd that, a weed killer, which has been designed for making the lives of the people, and for making the production of the food more efficient, and it should also be allowed for putting the health of the people at risk, and the people of the United States should not be subjected to the harmful chemicals that can possibly cause cancer while the people are just trying to take care of their gardens and lawns.
