Asia to Consume Half of World’s Electricity by 2025

Worldwide power request is set to develop at a sped-up speed and Asia will represent half of the world’s power utilization by 2025, the Global Energy Organization (IEA) has said. China, India, and Southeast Asia are expected to account for more than 70% of the rise in global demand for electricity.

According to the IEA, China is anticipated to lead absolute growth among these nations with an increase of 58 TWh from 2022 to 2025, while India is anticipated to experience the highest percentage growth with an increase of 81%.

The power interest in the Asia Pacific locale filled essentially in 2022, assessed 3.3 percent, driven by major areas of strength for an in India and offset somewhat by stifled development in China. The justification for the stoppage in China’s power request development was ascribed to the nation’s zero-Coronavirus strategy, which affected the general economy.

It is interesting to note that in 2022, India’s demand for electricity grew at a much faster rate than China’s. This could be due to a variety of factors, such as population growth, economic expansion, and growing urbanization.

The two countries’ demand accounted for approximately 70% of the region’s total electricity consumption of 13,500 TWh, or approximately 50% of global consumption. The report emphasized that India’s hydropower generation increased by over 10% above its 2017-2021 average despite a record heatwave in 2022.

According to IEA, at the moment, coal accounts for 74% of the Indian electricity mix. We anticipate that atomic result should ascend by more than 80% during the gauge time frame, to 83 TWh, yet to stay a little part at 4% of the blend in 2025.

It stated that while coal-fired generation increased by 7.7% in 2022, gas-fired production decreased by 36% as a result of higher imported gas prices. According to the IEA report, they expect the share in the generation mix to fall to 69 percent in 2025, as the share of renewables reaches 25 percent. Total coal-fired generation is set to rise until 2025.
