Netflix to End Password Sharing Before April 2023

People are having a hard time sharing their Netflix account password with anyone outside of the household. The video streaming company has announced in a letter to shareholders that it will expand paid sharing later in the first quarter of 2023. This basically indicates that password sharing on Netflix will cease in April of this year.

Netflix said that, they anticipate beginning a wider rollout of paid sharing later in the first quarter. The company’s long-term ability to invest in and improve Netflix, as well as build our business, is undermined by the current widespread account sharing.

According to Netflix’s terms, a household can only have one account, and the upcoming change will affect members who share their account with more people. As a result, it has developed new features to enhance Netflix’s user experience. Members will be able to review which devices are using their account on the platform, and they will also be able to transfer a profile to a new account.

Netflix has confirmed that the paid sharing feature will be available in a lot more countries in the first quarter of 2023. Additionally, the company will add a feature to the app that will allow users to pay extra to share their accounts with friends or people outside their immediate family. The experience of viewing content will not be altered in any way by this policy.

According to the information provided by Netflix, all members will be able to watch while traveling, whether using a mobile device or a television. Netflix claims that as the company introduces paid sharing, members in many countries will also be able to pay extra to share Netflix with non-residents.

Near-term engagement may be negatively impacted as Netflix goes through this transition and as some borrowers stop watching because they do not convert to additional members or full-paying accounts. Netflix, on the other hand, believes that the pattern will be similar to what we’ve seen in Latin America, with engagement increasing over time as more borrowers sign up for their own accounts and we continue to offer a great selection of programming.
