Meta Delays Within Unlimited Acquisition by One Month

Meta Platforms delays its acquisition of Within Unlimited, the creator of the well-known fitness app Supernatural, until before January 31, 2022. According to a Court Filing, Meta has agreed to delay the closing by one month until the US Federal Trade Commission’s preliminary injunction trial is resolved.

The US FTC has documented a claim looking to end the arrangement in July 2022, calling Meta a worldwide innovation behemoth, noticing Meta’s responsibility for well-known applications including Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. According to the US FTC, Meta’s attempt to conquer virtual reality (VR) began in 2014, when the company acquired Oculus, a manufacturer of VR headsets.

In October 2022, the US FTC filed a complaint against the merger, focusing on the virtual reality-dedicated exercise app market. However, the allegations regarding the virtual reality fitness app market have since been dropped.

The Quest 2, which is currently the most popular virtual reality headset on the market, is owned by Meta, which also controls a Meta Quest Store with hundreds of apps. Within Unlimited, which was established in 2014, is in charge of creating original content for virtual reality. The company claims to be the best place to find cinematic virtual reality.
