In China, BASF’s ColorBrite Airspace Blue ReSource basecoat made its debut. Since its launch in Europe in May 2022, it was the first time that BASF’s biomass balance automotive OEM coatings were made available in Asia. ColorBrite Airspace Blue ReSource’s first batch has been delivered to a new Chinese customer.
A third-party external sustainability consultant has looked at this basecoat product’s ability to reduce the product’s carbon footprint by around 20%. Being a component of the biomass balance version of BASF’s ColorBrite waterborne portfolio, it reduces carbon emissions without affecting the product’s performance or formulation.
In addition, BASF has received biomass certification for its resins plant in Caojing and its paint manufacturing sites in Caojing and Minhang, both of which are operated by BASF Shanghai Coatings Co., Ltd. With this certification, BASF is able to offer a variety of biomass balance certified automotive coatings solutions that are made with materials derived from renewable raw materials to its customers in China.
According to Jack Zou, BASF’s VP of Automotive OEM Coatings Solutions Asia Pacific, the company’s biomass balance approach replaces fossil-based feedstock with renewable raw materials, reaffirming its commitment to helping customers meet their carbon emission goals while maintaining product performance and quality.
