Riots Broke Out in Belgium after Morocco’s Win over Belgium in Qatar

Throughout the cities of Belgium, dozens of Belgian fans smashed shop windows, set cars on fire, and threw fireworks. According to the police, 11 people had been arrested, and only one was still in custody. Dozens of individuals, some of whom were wearing hoodies, sought confrontation with the police prior to the match’s conclusion.

A spokesperson stated that some fans were also armed with sticks, and the fireworks struck a journalist in the face. People were warned to avoid certain parts of the city center, metro stations were closed, and streets were sealed off to stop the violence from spreading, according to reports. Around one hundred police officers were mobilized.

The mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close, said that the police are doing everything they can to keep the peace in the areas, and he also told the police to arrest everyone who was responsible.

With a late goal from Romain Saiss in the 73rd minute and a second goal from Zakaria Aboukhlal in extra time, Morocco has won its third FIFA World Cup game ever. Morocco’s last World Cup victory came in 1998.

Belgium faces Croatia in their final group stage match, which they must win to advance to the World Cup, and now faces the possibility of being eliminated from the tournament.
