BMW Starts Production of iX1 in Germany

According to the reports, BMW has officially started production of the smallest electric SUV, the iX1 in its lineup. BMW iX1 is the smaller version of BMW iX3 and the iX electric SUV vehicles that are currently sold in the Australian market.

The production of the BMW iX1 started in Regensburg, a city located in the southeast region of Germany. The city is also home to the compact SUV production plant of BMW and it is the same a manufacturing plant that builds high voltage batteries. The beginning of production for electric BMW iX1 in Regenburg highlights the speed with which the company is ramping up electromobility, said BMW.

All BMW plants in Germany can now produce electric cars, which is the smallest model among all the BMW SUVs, and it will boost the volume of electric vehicles. In Australia, the smallest BMW electric SUV that can be purchased is the BMW iX3, and with the BMW iX1 beginning production, there is already an expression of interest for the people looking at the latest electric vehicle model from BMW.

According to BMW, the smaller segment of SUVs is important to BMW in Australia. The ICE version of the iX1 has sold more than 2,277 vehicles in 2022, and having an alternative for the vehicle would mean that most of the buyers would consider getting an electric vehicle instead.

BMW iX1 will compete with several other smaller electric vehicles available from premium brands such as Mercedes Benz. It is still unclear the exact date and timing of the launch in Australia, but is expected to be in the first quarter of 2023.
