Takeda Partner with Enel North America to Advance Renewable Energy Production in the US

Enel North America and Takeda have announced the signing of a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for the electricity delivered to the power grid from a portion of the 79-megawatt Seven Cowboy wind project in the state of Oklahoma in the United States.

The VPPA advances progress towards achieving Takeda’s goal of decreasing 40 percent of scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025, and achieving net-zero GHG for scopes 1 and 2 before 2035. The VPPA is a long-term bilateral contract for renewable energy and a strategic means through which Takeda is supporting the addition of renewable energy to the local grid.

Through the partnership, Takeda will purchase around 350,000 MWh of electricity from Enel North America annually, which is equivalent to the electricity needed to power around 30,000 homes in the United States each year. The agreement also provides enough energy to meet the anticipated electricity needs of Takeda in the United States, and this project is estimated to begin operations by 2023.

Takako Ohyabu, chief global corporate affairs and sustainability officer at Takeda, said that the health of their planet and the health of the people are inextricably linked, and it is incumbent on them to take every step they can to protect the people and planet.
