JLR Opens Test Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has created a specialist facility to test the next generation of vehicles for radio and electric interference. JLR has created the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) laboratory in Warwickshire to help ensure future vehicles satisfy the legislation, and meet quality standards for electronics and connectivity.

EMC is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to function correctly in the electromagnetic environment. The center works by limiting the unintentional generation, reception, and propagation of electromagnetic energy to decrease the risk of unwanted effects such as electromagnetic interference.

New vehicles laboratory of JLR features two anechoic chances including an electrically silent rolling road that enables engineers to test the vehicles at speed, and also equipment to assess the performance of individual components, like batteries and electric motors.

The facility will test vehicle services and features including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, 4G, 5G, blind-spot monitoring, wireless charging, and adaptive cruise control. JLR has two major engineering and design sites, with three vehicle manufacturing facilities, an engine manufacturing centre, and a battery assembly centre in the United Kingdom. The company also has vehicle plants in Brazil, China, Austria, India, and Slovakia.

JLR has declared a strategy to electrify both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands with two clear, and distinct personalities. The company says all Jaguar and Land Rover nameplates will be available in electric form by the end of the decade.
