bp revealed its plans to invest around 60 million dollars in a new, state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) battery testing centre, and analytical laboratory in the United Kingdom. Previously bp announced its intention to invest around 18 billion pounds in the energy system of the United Kingdom by end of 2030, and this additional new investment is an example of commitment of bp to the United Kingdom.
The new facilities, which are planned to open by end of 2024, will be located at the existing global headquarters of bp for its Castrol business based in Berkshire, and will support the technology, science, and engineering roles housed in the region.
This site already undertakes research and development of fuels, electric vehicle fluids, and lubricants, and is aiming to become a leading hub for engineering and fluid technologies in the United Kingdom.
Louise Kingham, UK head of country at bp, said they are backing Britain, and they are fully committed to the energy transition of the United Kingdom. This additional investment will help accelerate the transition to electric vehicles by developing solutions to provide help in decarbonizing the transport industry.
These new facilities will provide help to advance the development of leading fluid technologies, and engineering for hybrid and fully-electric vehicles, which aims to bring the industry closer to achieving the key tipping points for adoption of mainstream electric vehicles.
