Roby Denholm said electric vehicle (EV) sales of Tesla Inc, are rapidly picking up off a low base in Australia and are all set to catch up with the sales of the company’s Powerwell home batteries in the country.
She said, they now have over 26,500 Teslas on the roads of Australia, and the momentum is also there, and she personally will not be surprised if they double that number by the end of the year.
Australia makes up around one percent of the electric vehicles of Tesla on the road, which has been totalled 2.5 million across globe at the end of the first quarter of 2022, and the electric vehicle’s make up just two percent of the new car sales in the country.
Roby Denholm said Australia has been in a very unique position from the perspective of energy, and in that they have more Powerwalls installed in Australia than they do have Tesla cars on the road. The home batteries are most popular in Australia to go along with rooftop solar, in a country that has the highest per capita uptake of rooftop solar across the globe.
She added, these chargers need to be rolled out without delay, and this has been missing piece to mass adoption of electric vehicles. She also urged the new Labor government of the United Kingdom to put in place vehicle fuel emission standards for the purpose of encouraging the uptake of electric vehicles.
