The second stronghold of the European operations of Ford can possibly fall in the year 2025, along with the confirmation from Ford that, it is not going to be replacing the made in Germany Focus hatchback after the company’s lifecycle ends in the year 2025.
Stuart Rowley, chairman of Europe said that, he had been hunting for the alternative opportunities for the body assembly and manufacturing operation at Saarlouis and there has been no confirmed change for the large Cologne operation that has been the continental mainstay of Ford since the year 1929, which is going to be taking the share of the production of the company ‘Volkswagen’ electric vehicles based on MEB from the year 2023.
The options for the company ‘Ford’ has been including selling the plant to another automobile company and also repurposing it for the others and also the unconfirmed operations.
Stuart Rowley said that, they are now seeking another alternative opportunities for the vehicle production at the Saarlouis, which is also including several other manufacturing companies.
It could have also been used for building the new range of the electric vehicles of Ford based on the MEB architecture, along with the electric motors and batteries of the Volkswagen Group, but the company has lost its bid to the Spain plant of Ford in the region of Valencia.
Ford of Europe has been moving to a fully electric future and large job losses had been expected from the 4600 workers at the Saarlouis and the 6000 people at the plant in Valencia in the transition to the electric vehicles anyway.
