Toyota Beats GM in North America Auto Sales in Q1 of 2022

Toyota, a Japanese automobile company has once again beat General Motors in the first quarter of 2022, which is owing to an increased demand for the company’s hybrid and electric vehicles. General Motors has been the leading domestic vehicle producer in the United States for the past 91 years after snatching the top place from the company ‘Ford’, and the company has not lost since the year 1931.

According to the analysts, the sudden change in the position of the market can possibly result from the ongoing shortage of the semiconductor chips. The South Korean companies including Hyundai, Kia and Japan’s Mazda has also recorded a decrease in the first quarter of the automobile sales in the region of North America in 2022.

The company ‘Hyundai’ said that, there had been a large increase in the electrified vehicle purchases in the region of the 241 percent during the period of January and March as compared to same period in the year 2021.

The senior vice president for sales at Hyundai for the United States said that, if the gas prices has remained very high and more consumers of North America is going to be shifting towards the green technology.

Senior vice president of automobile operations of Toyota Motors in North America said, they have not expected that, significant long-term shift in the automobile market since three quarters of the automobiles, which they have sold had been trucks and SUVs.
