Lightsource BP Launched 300MW Solar Energy Site in US

The renewable energy company ‘Lightsource BP’ has now launched a 300-megawatt solar energy project in the region of Colorado, US, which is largely going to be responsible in powering a local steel mill in which the company has said that is going to be the first in the world.

The Bighorn solar energy farm has been representing 285 million dollars of investment and it is also going to be powering the steel mill of EVRAZ’s Rocky Mountain Steel based in Pueblo, and it has currently been putting the power onto the grid and it is also going to be coming fully online in the month of November 2021.

Lightsource BP owns, finance and operates the solar energy sites completely, and it is the going to sell the power, which was generated to the Xcel Energy, which is a utility companies based in Minneapolis. The Bighorn solar energy farm has been the largest on-site solar energy plant in the United States, and it is dedicated to a single customer.

Kevin Smith, chief executive officer of Lightsource BP Americas said, this solar energy project proves that, even hard to do industries like steel can also be decarbonized, when the companies come together along with some innovative solutions, and last month, the company has also increased its target of solar energy deployment to 25 gigawatts by the year 2025.
