Undersea Project of NeuConnect To Link Energy Markets of UK and Germany

The NeuConnect Project, which is going to be creating the first interconnector or direct power link between the United Kingdom and Germany, which will be connecting two of the biggest energy markets has been making a move as the contracts of 1.5 billion pounds have been awarded by the project’s consortium for the development of the undersea link for the transmission of electricity between two of the biggest economies of Europe.

The NeuConnect said that, the project is mainly about laying the subsea cables for the flow of the 1.4 gigawats of electricity for passing in the two-way directions between the two countries for powering the 1.5 million homes.

The project is going to be helping the countries for the purpose of expanding their renewable energy base and trade. According to NeuConnect, the Siemens Energy and Prysmian Group is going to be developing the cabling works and also the converter stations. The designing, manufacturing, testing, installing and commissioning of the interconnector is going to done by both the companies and they are also going to be responsible for building the two converter stations with one each in the United Kingdom and Germany.

This project is also going to help in displacing around 16 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, and the link is going to be around 450 miles long and it is also going to be the first direct link between the energy markets of the United Kingdom and Germany.
