Duke Energy Partners with Microsoft and Accenture to Develop Methane Emission Monitoring Platform

The company ‘Duke Energy’ Announced, it has signed partnership with the companies Microsoft and Accenture for the purpose of developing a new technology platform, that has been designed for measuring the actual baseline of the emissions of methane from the distribution systems of natural gas.

This new monitoring platform is going to provide the collection of the real-time data, that has been responsible in allowing the field response teams of Duke Energy for repairing and identifying leakages of methane more rapidly, and this platform is going to be hosted by the cloud technology and it is also going to prioritize and track the data, that has been associated with the leakages by using some advanced detection methods including ground-level sensing technology, satellites and fixed-wind aircrafts.

This new sensor technology is able to detect the tracing levels of the emissions of methane, which the current technology might not be able to identify, and this new platform is going to be augmenting the drive of the company towards the net-zero emissions of methane in the natural gas business of the company by 2030.

Brian Weisker, chief operations officer and senior vice president of natural gas at Duke Energy said, this monitoring platform is going to re-imaging how the local distribution companies of natural gas are calculating the emissions of methane and are performing the surveys of the leakages along with improving the expediency in which the leakages may be repaired along with resulting in the dramatic lower emissions of methane.
