UK Government Will Investigate Renewable Electricity Deals

The government of United Kingdom has recently launched an investigation into the renewable electricity deals amid the continuously growing concern over the extent of the ‘greenwashing’ strategy by some of the big energy companies that have been claiming to offer the environmental benefits to the customers of those energy firms.

In a crackdown, as the increasing numbers of the people have been switching to a deal of renewable energy, and the government of United Kingdom said, it is going to be reviewing how the energy industry will be marketing its tariffs of green electricity to the consumers.

The government of United Kingdom has also warned that, it has planned to tighten the rules for the purpose of stopping the companies from exaggerating the benefits of the environment of the tariffs of green electricity, which has been marketing tactic called as greenwashing, and the business department of the United Kingdom said, the investigation is going to be focusing on whether the labels like ‘100% renewable’ will remain fit for the purpose.

Around 9 million households of United Kingdom are on the green tariffs, along with over 50 percent of the all new deals, which are launched by the renewable energy providers that are now claiming to come with the environmental benefits, even though, the energy companies are currently able to advertise the tariffs as green even if some of the energy, which the companies supply comes from the fossil fuels, that the figures of the energy industry have been warning the risks, that might be responsible for misleading the consumers.
