Germany: Semiconductor Shortage Forces Daimler and BMW to Halt Production

The shortage of semiconductor across the world has been responsible in halting the production in the car industry of Germany as the demands have rebounded strongly from the downturn induced from the corona virus pandemic.

And the German automobile giants including BMW and Daimler said, the shortage in the chips have forced the assembly lines of the company to halt and it is also responsible for decreasing the output by thousands of vehicles, which has been responsible in leading to the longer waiting time for the customers.

This week, in Germany, the company BMW has temporarily stopped the production or have decreased the number of the shifts at the tree factories in the region of Germany, along with one factory in the United Kingdom, and also the factories, that had been owned by some of the suppliers in the region of Austria and the Netherlands, which mainly assemble the vehicles under the contract.

On Wednesday, 21st July 2021, a spokeswoman of BMW said, as a result, the production of the company has been falling short by around 10,000 vehicles for the week and there is also going to be a similar shortfall in the upcoming week.

Ola Kallenius, chief executive of the Daimler, the company Daimler has also been trying to cope up with the shortage of the semiconductors by giving the priority to the company’s most expensive and some of the most profit making cars, but even they have been affected.
