Maine Bans Toxic Chemicals Under New Law in US

The state ‘Maine’ has now enacted a law, which is going to ban the use of the toxic PFAS chemical compounds in all the products by the year 2030, except in all of the instances, that has been deemed as currently unavoidable.

Even though, the US states and the federal government of the United States have now passed the laws for the purpose of regulating the use of the most dangerous chemicals, and the ‘Maine’ has been the first state of the United States and the first government of the world for the purpose of enacting a broad prohibition on the class of around 9,000 compounds, that are dubbed as the forever chemicals because, they does not completely accumulate and break down in the humans and the environment.

The PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), has now been typically used for the purpose of making the products more stain and water resistant, and they have also been so effective that, the products are now being used across dozens of the industries and the products are also added to a large range of the products, which mainly includes cookware, cosmetics, food packaging, dental floss, guitar strings and stain protectors, that are most commonly used on the furniture and carpets.

Sarah Doll, the national director of a public health advocacy groups ‘Safer States’ said, this policy has now been setting a string national precedent, which is sending a clear signal to the chemical industry, which needs to move fast from the toxic chemicals like the PFAS.
