States in US Accused Google of Its App Store Monopoly

On Wednesday, 7^th July 2021, dozens of the states of the United States of America have joined forces in filing a lawsuit accusing the technology giant ‘Google’ of abusing the power of the company, which it comes for getting the apps for the mobile devices powered by the Android OS.

The lawsuit has been aiming at the online shop of Play Store for purchasing the apps along with several other digital content for the Android Powered smartphones, and the litigation comes as the power of the big technology companies are facing growing pressure from the lawsuits and also from the regulators.

Letitia James, a leader of the litigation and New York attorney general said, they have been filing the lawsuit for ending the illegal monopoly power of the company ‘Google’ and for finally giving the voice to the millions of the business owners and consumers. She also said, the company ‘Google’ has also made sure that, hundreds of millions of the Android users have been turning to Google and only Google, for the millions of the apps they might be choosing to download into their tablets and phones.

The lawsuit has also been backed by around 37 attorney generals, that have been accusing the company of the purpose of using the anti-competitive tactics for the purpose of discouraging the Android applications from being at the shops other than the company’s Play Store, where the payment system of the Google Play Store has been collecting commissions of the transactions.
