WhatsApp Banned Over 450,000 Indian User Accounts in February 2023

WhatsApp discharges its client wellbeing report consistently. The report incorporates the quantity of records prohibited by the stage in the next month, complaints reports got from clients and that’s just the beginning. The Meta-owned platform recently released its user safety report, which revealed that in February 2023, more than 45 lakh Indian accounts were removed from WhatsApp.

In accordance with Rule 4(1)(d) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, WhatsApp has removed these Indian accounts. Between January 1 and February 28, 2023, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta has banned over 4,597,400 Indian users, according to the most recent report.

The records were prohibited in light of complaints got from clients in India. Using its prevention and detection methods, WhatsApp acted against these accounts for violating Indian laws or WhatsApp’s Terms of Service. According to the report, 1,298,000 of the 4,597,400 banned accounts were proactively blocked by WhatsApp before users reported them.

WhatsApp provides additional information in its monthly report, stating that it received 2,804 complaints. There were 12,548 ban appeals, but WhatsApp only acted against 495 of them. The platform also received 14 safety-related reports, two of which were used to act against two accounts.
