U.S. Steel and General Motors Partner for US-Sourced Sustainable verdeX Steel

Ken Jaycox, senior vice president and chief commercial officer of US Steel, said that, they are pleased to join GM in its mission to promote a world with zero emissions by providing such an advanced and sustainable steel product. A cutting-edge, long-term steel option known as verdeX will be provided to General Motors (GM) by the U.S. Steel Corporation (US Steel).

Ken Jaycox stated that as part of their Best for All strategy, they are committed to assisting our customers in reducing their carbon footprint by providing advanced steel products made in the United States that can be recycled multiple times and are produced with fewer emissions. The advanced high-strength steel of their verdeX steel comes with the benefit of low manufacturing emissions.

Up to 90% of the material used to make verdeX steel is recycled. In addition, it can be recycled for an unlimited amount of time without deteriorating, and its production results in up to 75% fewer emissions than traditional blast furnace production.

The steel will be produced at U.S. Steel’s Big River Steel facility and will be shipped to GM manufacturing facilities later this year through a $3 billion advanced technology mill in Osceola, Ark.
