As political pressure continues to build on the Chinese-owned social video app, TikTok has been banned from all devices issued by the US House of Representatives.
Catherine Szpindor, the House of Representative’s chief administrative officer (CAO), issued the order to delete the app after her office had warned in August 2022 that TikTok posed a high risk to its.
According to a report, TikTok must be removed from the mobile phones of all US House of Representatives lawmakers and staff. According to reports the US House of Representatives staff are not allowed to download the TikTok app on any mobile devices. The staff will be contacted to remove the TikTok app from their US House of Representatives issued mobile devices.
The US House of Representatives said that, they can confirm that the Committee on House Administration has authorized the CAO Office of Cybersecurity to initiate the removal of TikTok Social Media Service from all House-managed devices.
Because of TikTok’s lack of transparency in how it protects data of its users, the CAO has issued a cyber-advisory in August, 2022, that labelled TikTok as a high-risk app. ByteDance, based in Beijing, China, owns TikTok, which, according to the report, is actively harvesting content for identifiable data and also stores some user data in China. According to TikTok, the data is stored in the United States and Singapore, and not in China.
