Tesla to Deliver its Semi-Electric Trucks to PepsiCo in December

PepsiCo Inc. confirmed that it will take delivery of semi-trucks of Tesla Inc. on December 1, 2022, becoming the first company to receive its orders of the much-delayed electric vehicle. According to PepsiCo, the trucks will be used at its Frito-Lay plant in California, the United States, and its beverage factory in Sacramento.

PepsiCo has been aiming to decrease fuel costs and emissions, and has reserved 100 of the trucks for 2017. US companies have pledged to take action to decrease their impacts on the environment, with PepsiCo aiming to achieve a net-zero emissions target by 2040.

Ramon Laguarta, chief executive officer of Tesla, said that transportation accounts for around 10 percent of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions, and its company-owned fleet traveled1.2 billion miles in 2021.

Elon Musk, chief executive officer of Tesla, announced the start of production of the Semi-truck on Twitter, saying the vehicles have 500-mile range. Initially, Elon Musk said that the trucks would have been in production by 2019, but the timeline has been delayed by years because of parts shortages.

On PepsiCo’s website, the company said it expects 15 trucks to be deployed by the end of 2022. Several other companies including Walmart Canada, United Parcel Service Inc, and Sysco Corp, had also placed pre-orders for Semi-trucks of Tesla.
