Rivian Recalls nearly all Vehicles over Loose Fastener Issue

Rivian Automotive, an electric SUV and truck manufacturing company, has announced it is recalling nearly all the vehicles it has delivered to customers in order to tighten a loose fastener that could potentially affect the ability of the driver to steer.

Rivian said it is recalling around 13,000 vehicles due to a fastener connecting the front upper-control arm and steering knuckle of the vehicles that might not be torqued enough. There have been reports that are potentially related to the issue, but no injuries have been reported.

RJ Scaringe, chief executive officer of Rivian, said that if people experience excessive noise, harshness, and vibration from the front suspension, and a change in steering performance, they should call immediately. According to the company, the fix will only take a few minutes, and Rivian expects to have finished the repairs on all of them in around 30 days, with customer partnership.

Rivian is aiming to take advantage of an increasing appetite among a long its investors and consumers for electric vehicles. Rivian is among line of companies, both new and old, that are trying to peel away the market share from Tesla. In September 2022, Rivian said it was partnering with Mercedes-Benz to build a factory in Europe to produce electric vans for both companies.
